So, the time has come, you are finally fed up of having to shave your legs week after week and now its summer, it means your legs must be smooth more so than often. Shaving almost always leads to cuts and bleeding, which let’s face it, looks terrible when you have your legs out.
Permanently removing your leg hair is a safe and effective way to banish hair and be silky smooth forever. Imagine never having to worry about wearing a skirt because your legs haven’t been shaved. That’s the dream, right? We can do this for you with our Laser Hair Removal treatments. However, with various ways to remove hair on the market how do we know what’s better to remove the hair forever, Diode Laser or IPL?
When researching different hair removal options, one of the most important things to understand is the difference between Diode Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology, including the processes involved and the best results you can expect from each.
So, what is the difference between the two?
Laser hair removal produces a single spectrum of intense concentrated pure light in one single red colour and wavelength. The laser targets the dark pigment in your hair follicles so that it heats the follicle to disable any further growth in the hair without heating the surrounding skin. Basically, it is killing each hair follicles from the ability to regrow again. The Diode laser is fully optimised for hair removal, with the beam allowing for a more deep and powerful targeted energy to the hair follicles, which will achieve accurate and permanent results. Once the hair follicle has been disabled fully it will no longer be able to regrow hair.
Intense Pulse Light (IPL) provides a broad spectrum of colours and wavelengths, kind of like a lightbulb and it is not possible to focus the light energy to a concentrated beam. These lights are all at various levels of depths, so the diffused energy does not only target the hair follicles but also the surrounding skin. With IPL it will not fully stop the hair follicle regrowth, it will just reduce and slow it down. Only a small percentage of the IPL energy is effectively absorbed by the hair follicle to achieve the hair reduction. Therefore, you would need more regular treatments in order for the IPL to reach the thicker and deeper hair follicles.
The real question is does Laser or IPL treatments hurt?
Laser Hair removals pain intensity is purely depending on its user. It can vary for each different client depending on their pain threshold, we at better body clinics use Diode Laser technology and we can alter the intensity of the laser with higher settings. Some of our clients may feel a sensation of a rubber band snapping against the skin or a warm prickly feeling, whilst some of our clients have zero discomfort during the procedures.
With IPL hair removal it also varies depending on who is getting the treatment. Because it uses various wavelengths in each pulse and also beams onto the outer skin surrounding the hair, it can mean that the client can feel some discomfort during the procedure.
What is more cost-effective Laser or IPL?
With Laser hair removal permanently removing all your desired hair, we would say this is more cost effective. Each patient would need around 6 -8 sessions to see full results and the hair follicles to be completely dead. Once the hairs are dead, then your treatment is complete, and you wouldn’t have to worry about any unwanted hairs again. We at Better Body Clinics start our sessions from £25, depending on the area you want removing.
Over-all we think that Diode Laser Technology for permanent hair removal is best. If you are looking for a full-term removal then definitely choose laser, if you are looking for a short-term solution for a trip or holiday then go for IPL.
