Hair loss in women is a much bigger and more common problem than most people actually realise and we personally have a large number of women enquiring about how they can fight the signs and effects of hair loss. More often than not, the majority of these women are coming to us after already scouring and exploring the other avenues available commonly on the market and we are here to help. So what options are actually available on the market for women who are suffering from hair loss and looking to fight it off?
Because hair loss in women is such a difficult topic, ensuring the correct diagnosis for every individual client is vital and the pre-evaluation checks are greatly different for women than they are for men. Routine hormonal and medical evaluations will be carried out to diagnose the cause of the hair loss and evaluating a complete medical history will be the first step on your journey to restoring your hair. The point of the evaluation is to establish the cause of and solution to the hair loss, allowing your transplant surgeon to decide whether or not it can be managed best by a medical treatment, surgical treatment or a combination of the two.
From this point, there are two main options for dealing with the hair loss which are the FUE and FUT methods, which stand for follicular unit extraction and follicular unit transplantation respectively. The difference between these two methods is the way in which the individual follicles are extracted from an area of the head that is less prone to hair loss, such as the rear of the head, and then implanted into the scalp in the area that is experiencing balding or loss. Because this is your own natural hair, once the follicles have been transplanted and regrows it will look completely natural, blending in with the rest of your hair and becoming completely unnoticeable.
In case where the hair loss isn’t as severe, there are also scalp micropigmentation treatments which are slightly different for women than they are for men. In men, the SMP treatments are used to help create the illusion of the “freshly shaved look” which for men is an incredibly good option, however for women it doesn’t work quite as well. For women, SMP treatments are performed to offer the illusion of depth and shadow to the hair, giving it an underlying natural tone that represents the hair well and hides any balding spots with ease. Due to the nature of the treatment though, normally multiple sessions are required, however in comparison to a transplant it is much cheaper than a transplant for someone who isn’t experiencing hair loss of an extreme level.
