Hair loss or thinning can be a very difficult thing to experience, especially if you are going through things at a younger age or feeling like you are going through it alone, however with millions of men and women worldwide suffering from hair loss every day and many others suffering with it at some point in their lifetime, it’s an incredibly common thing to happen.
Losing your hair for whatever reason can have a lot of questions associated with it that need to be answered and we are happy to answer some of the common ones below.
I’ve noticed that my hair is falling out in the shower, should I be worried about this?
Every single one of your hair follicles goes through a growth cycle where the hair shaft grows and gets longer, followed by a period of resting where the hair follicle shrinks and causes the hair to remain at a constant length until it starts to loosen and fall out. Because every single hair has its own individual cycle and growth phases, normally you will lose approximately 80 to 100 hairs per day.
Anything more than this can lead to the thinning of your hair, especially after you reach your 30s and 40s and the rate in which your hair grows tends to slow which can cause the appearance of thinning and in some cases baldness. In any case, it’s not really anything to worry about unless you are noticeably losing large amounts of hair and if the latter is the case, we advise you contact us immediately.
My hair is permanently snapped at both sides of my fringe following having children, will it ever grow back and how can I stop it happening?
Thinning sides are a very common thing and something that a lot of people go through, one of the more common ways to help alleviate this is to gently massage the area with your fingers to help stimulate blood flow which can nourish your hair follicles and cause renewed growth.
Things such as caffeine shampoos can allow the caffeine to travel into the follicles to improve the circulation of blood and inhibit the production of DHT which causes hair loss. It’s not a miracle treatment, however it will help to hide the visible signs of loss in these areas.
My hair has started to thin more since I’ve entered my 50’s, what can I do to avoid it as I get older?
For both men and women, this is a problem and millions suffer with this due to changing hormone levels and the natural results of ageing. Unfortunately, there isn’t really too much you can do to avoid this as it could be down to a hormonal imbalance or could simply be down the genes you’ve inherited before birth. Hair transplants will work to an extent, however if the loss is too great before booking in then the results will not be as good as expected.
