Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning is a very effective and painless exfoliation procedure that can be carried out and performed quickly with minimal skin irritation. The procedure is carried out to remove dead skin cells and the very fine ‘vellus’ hair which is more commonly known as peach fuzz. After the procedure is complete, your skin is left feeling smoother as the dead skin cells and the fine hair have been eliminated. A dermaplaning procedure can be carried out as either a standalone procedure or as a method to prepare the skin for other facial treatments.
The treatment is carried out by one of our practitioners who will use a specialised sharp blade, positioned at a 45° angle to the skin, to gently sweep across the surface of the skin. This sweeping action removes the dead skin cells in the upper layers of the skin as these are often nearing the end of the skins natural cycle of regeneration, giving your skin a youthful and brighter appearance.
Why choose dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is considered to be an incredibly safe and highly effective skin exfoliation procedure, capable of removing the outer layer of dead skin as well as the fine vellus hair that can make the skin appear unclean. By undergoing a dermaplaning procedure, the skin is triggered into going through its regeneration process which leaves the skin looking and feeling younger.
While the idea of a surgical blade being gently pulled across your face might sound scary on paper, it’s generally found that it’s something so gentle that there’s no downtime associated with the treatment at all.
How does dermaplaning work?
Dermaplaning works using a simple and time proven concept, shaving. While that’s a really basic explanation of the treatment, that’s pretty much what is going on during the treatment.
Using a sterile surgical blade, the outer surface of the skin is gently “shaved” to remove the fine peach fuzz hair on the surface, as well as the outermost layer of dead skin. By doing so, this tricks the body into triggering its cell regeneration process which helps to fight the signs of ageing and skin imperfections such as lines and wrinkles, acne scars and even issues such as hyperpigmentation. Once the treatment is complete, the results will be visible instantly and your skin will be noticeably smoother and more radiant.
Because the outer layer of skin has been removed, the lower layers of the skin are more exposed and as a direct result of this, the use of skincare products and skin treatments tend to be much more effective as they can penetrate the skin much more easily.
What are the benefits?
Dermaplaning as a treatment is an incredible way to bring your younger skin to the forefront and show a youthful and radiant glow, but there are other benefits associated with it too. For starters, the treatment itself is incredibly fast to be performed and the results are immediate, meaning you can get back to your daily life with your new look in very little time. Dermaplaning also promotes the production of collagen deep within the skin, prolonging the results that you achieve and helping your body to fight the signs of ageing as they start to happen.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does dermaplaning hurt?
Dermaplaning does not hurt at all and doesn’t require any local or topical anaesthetics. In many ways it feels similar to shaving the skin, with a scrubbing sensation, but no pain.
Does the hair grow back thicker?
One issue that patients are often concerned with when getting Dermaplane is whether facial hair will grow back thicker or grow back faster. There is no need to worry, as Dermaplane will not cause any of these problems. The treatment is designed to remove dead skin cells, and any facial hair that is cut during the process will grow back at its normal rate and normal thickness. Dermaplane will not cause any changes to the hair growth cycle or thickness.
How often should I have a dermaplane treatment?
We recommend every 4 weeks.
Is dermaplaning just shaving your face?
While it does involve gently pulling a sharp blade along your face and removing hair, dermaplaning isn’t the same as shaving and it uses a much smaller blade to slough off the dead skin cells as well to improve the skin tone and texture.
Are there any side effects to dermaplaning?
Cosmetic procedures, even when they’re non-surgical, can come with side effects associated with them. Some of those that are considered common with dermaplaning are spot breakouts, redness and skin irritation.
