Acne is an incredibly common occurrence for the majority of people around the world during adolescence, however for some people it can also occur during adulthood and can be quite unsightly. As a skin condition, acne can be extremely frustrating due to the appearance on your skin though if left untreated, it can cause long lasting damage to the skin including scarring. It can occur for a number of reasons, including natural hormone dysfunctions, allergies, nutritional deficiencies and even environmental factors but regardless of the cause, acne scares are formed as a result of your pores and skin follicles being blocked by excessive oils and grime. Thanks to advancements in medical technologies, there is now a reliable form of acne treatment that can be used to get rid of the scarring that is commonly associated with bad acne and this is known as a Dermapen.
A Dermapen is a handheld device that has microscopic disposable needles inserted into the top of it. The way in which it is used to treat acne is done in a precise manner by an aesthetician who will run the Dermapen across the surface of the skin to create microscopic holes and punctures which encourages the skin cells to begin their natural healing processes to repair this damage and stimulate the production of collagen to help restore the appearance of the skin back to its original smoothness. The results of Dermapen being used as a form of acne treatment can be quite exceptional as the depth of the needles being used can be altered to trigger the damage reparation from a deeper or shallower layer of the skin.
How does it feel?
Treating acne scars can become quite uncomfortable due to the nature of the treatment so before any needles are applied to the skin, aestheticians will provide and apply numbing cream to help ease and alleviate this feeling. Both during and after the treatment, it is highly likely that the surface of the skin will start to become red and inflamed with the possibility of feeling quite warm to the touch, though this is incredibly natural considering the fact that it has just been repeatedly punctured for approximately 30-60 minutes, and although there is some form of downtime that can be associated with having a Dermapen acne treatment, this is nowhere near as extensive as the downtime associated with any other form of acne treatment currently available.
What about the results?
Immediately following the treatment, you will start to see that there is a difference in the appearance of your skin but for optimum results, you should be prepared for a course of around 4-6 treatments. For your best results following the treatment, you will start to see them properly after around 6 weeks with the optimal results appearing anytime up to 3 months following the treatment. All acne treatments will be tailored to the individual who is undergoing the treatment and personal experiences and results will vary on a person to person basis.
